Swine flu claims first victim in India

PUNE/NEW DELHI - A 14-year-old girl student of Pune who complained of sore throat last month Monday became the first victim of swine flu in India, the authorities said.

The girl was on ventilator for many days at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a hospital after going down with influenza A(H1N1) virus, the official said.

India has over 500 swine flu cases with Pune reporting most cases.
