Hospital: 12-year-old crash survivor has surgery
PARIS — A Paris hospital says a 12-year-old girl who was the only known survivor of the Yemenia Airways flight that crashed in the Indian Ocean has undergone facial surgery.
The Armand-Trousseau Hospital said Thursday that Bahia Bakari underwent the operation on her jaw and skin and was returned to her room in late afternoon and is now resting in satisfactory condition.
Bahia survived at sea for up to 13 hours, clinging to debris, after the June 30 crash of Flight 626. The 152 others aboard, including her mother, are presumed dead.
The operation came a week after Bahia returned to France in a French government plane. Officials said she suffered from hypothermia, a fractured collarbone and bruises to her face, elbow and foot.
