Mandatory Ethics Training for Human Studies Proposed

The Office for Human Research Protections has issued a notice to all the researchers to undergo mandatory training in human research ethics for studies with human subjects. Also the agency is seeking public comment on whether such training should be required.

Vitespen Failed To Improve Remission After Kidney Tumor-Removing Surgery

The British Journal The Lancet has reported that a new kidney cancer vaccine called vitespen, failed in last-phase clinical trials to improve the odds of avoiding remission after tumor-removing surgery. Christopher Wood and other of his co researchers of the Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, have tested the vaccine to 409 patients whose cancerous tumors had been removed. They then compared the relapse and survival rates to a second group that received no additional treatment. The difference in outcomes was statistically insignificant.

HPV Vaccine Gardasil Accused Of Teen’s Paralysis In USA

Jenny Tetlock is a teenager and like other peers of her age, she used to enjoy life to the full. Only then she could realize that she fall prey to the degenerative muscle disease after being vaccinated against the cervical cancer-causing HPV virus. As a first sign of the disease, she missed the lowest hurdle in gym class. And this has left the previously healthy teenager nearly completely paralyzed. Thankfully, her father Philip Tetlock, a scientist himself, has embarked on an odyssey to find out whether the vaccine or random coincidence is to blame. Tetlock has contacted top medical experts, posted pleas on discussion boards looking for other teens who’ve experienced neurological problems post-vaccination and has been desperately trying to get the government to open an investigation into his daughter’s case.

Exercise Not Able To Reduce Migraine Attacks

Researchers at the University of Regensburg, Germany find that exercise does not help to reduce the migraine attacks or their duration. However exercise can cut down the intensity of the headache pain in those who suffer from migraines. The study was published in the journal Headache.

Antiretroviral Medications Helps HIV Patients Live Longer

The British research shows that the antiretroviral medications have helped to lower the death rate among the HIV patients down. For most, the five-year, post-diagnosis survival for those infected sexually is now about equal to that of the general population. Dramatic declines in death rates for HIV-infected individuals following the introduction of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) in industrialized nations in the mid-90s have already been documented.

Lismore Offers Painless Solution To Prostate Problem

The almost bloodless treatment of prostate problem is now available in Lismore. The GreenLight Laser MKII, is now available in the St Vincent’s Private Hospital in the city. The new procedure reduces the time men need to stay in hospital from three or four days down to about 24 hours. Until now the machine was available only in Sydney and Melbourne.

Nanotechnology & Fungus Leads To Promising Cancer Drug

The US scientists have found that a drug called lodamin, can be used to treat cancer. The drug was invented by a cancer researcher Dr. Judah Folkman, who died early this year. The drug which was developed using nanotechnology and a fungus that contaminated a lab experiment may be broadly effective against a range of cancers. The inventor of the drug, Folkman pioneered the idea of angiogenesis therapy, starving tumors by preventing them from growing blood supplies.
