US Air Pollution Standard Not Good For Asthmatic Children
The Inner City Asthma Study Group researchers has found that air pollution is the major reason behind asthma in children especially those among 5 and 12 years. They also suggest that asthma management plans for inner-city children may need to include reduced exposure to air pollutants. Thus the study brings questions about the quality of air in cities like Boston, New York City, Chicago among the others.
The lung function of the children in these towns had significantly decreased due to exposure to higher concentrations of air pollutants such as sulfur dioxide, airborne fine particles, and nitrogen dioxide. The study suggest that higher nitrogen dioxide levels are associated with asthma related symptoms.
The study further pointed that motor vehicle exhaust is the main source of nitrogen dioxide. It suggests the emissions of the motor vehicle is responsible for asthma and related problems among city children.
