UK is planning to introduce yoga and dance classes for thousands of young students to fight growing obesity among children.

Fitness instructors from health clubs will be going to schools from next month to inspire children with activities not currently on the timetable, a media report said on Sunday.

“Children are getting fatter and that is because they are doing less activity.” The Observer quoted director of communications at the Fitness Industry Association, Andree Dean, which is running the scheme with government funding. Dean said schools would be pairing up with health clubs, to offer pupils sessions like they provide for gym members.

Latest Facts reported:
• By 2010, obese youngsters in EU nations expected to be around 26 million.
• An estimated 20,000 obese will have Type 2 diabetes, an adult disease.
• Over a million kids will show signs of high BP or cardiovascular disease.
• Changes in diet, less physical activity and too much time in front of
computer or TV screens blamed for obesity.
