Moderate Drinking Keeps Bones Strong?
The recent study published in the American Journal of Medicine shows that moderate alcohol drinking can be helpful to reduce the risk of bone fracture. It shows that moderate alcohol consumption can lower the risk of bone fracture by 20% to 39%. The research is the outcome of the data collected from 33 separate studies.
The study has been conducted by the Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx. The lead researcher of the study Karina Berg told media that their study supports the previous studies that shows the beneficial effect of alcohol in health. She moreover added that heavy alcohol can be detrimental to health. However she added that she is not clear how much alcohol is optimal for maximizing bone density and minimizing hip fracture risk.
To explain, Berg said that hormones can be the reason behind the bone fracture and alcohol consumption. Alcohol increases circulating estrogen, which helps keep bones strong, opined Breg.
