Lung Cancer Threat By HPV
A newly published study news in United States links the sexually transmitted human papillomavirus or HPV to lung cancer. This study was released in the late last week, by the University of Louisville stating that till now connection between the HPV and the infection of mouth and throat was found but now connection between the lung cancer and HPV is proved.
Papillomavirus are a diverse group of DNA based virus that infect the skin and mucous membrane of humans and a variety of animals causing precancerous symptoms.
Of 100 known HPV about 30-40 is typically transmitted through sexual contact causing cancers of the sex organs, particularly the cervix, while some are transmitted through skin to skin contact. According to the American Centers of Disease control, by the age of 50 more than 80% of American women will have contracted at least one strain of HPV.
In the year 2006, a vaccine “Gardasil“(approved by FDA) was introduced particularly for young women and girls in the United States.
But typically conservative parents and activists inspite of knowing this fact, are still condemning the vaccine, claiming that this easily available vaccine will encourage the young people to do the promiscuous sex.
