Americans prefer Medical Treatment abroad than in their own place

Recent study report shows that more and more Americans are preferring to go abroad for medical treatment than in their own country. It shows that in 2006 near about 150,000 people traveled abroad for medical treatment, in last year it become 750,000 and it is estimated that by the year 2012 the no. will explode to 10 million.

Now the question arise - Are the Americans doing the right thing by traveling abroad for medical treatment?

The answer is yes, if they get the same quality of treatment in a cheaper rate with a less cost of travel, the environment is good or better than at home, chance of waiting list is minimal, and on top of it all – it is mixed with a bit of a holiday then why not.

And this is what is happening with the lakhs of American residents. They prefer more to fly huge distances to state-of-the art medical facilities in Asia and Latin America for cataract removals, hernia operations or even heart surgery. They go to such modern facilities as the Bumrungrad hospital in Thailand, the Wockhardt hospitals in India or the Parkway healthchain in Singapore with the 15 percent price offering than what is offered in U.S.

And now looking towards the changes in the US medical world, the two top-notch American medical centers — Mayo and Johns Hopkins — has also preferred to established their own operations in the Mideast and Asia. And Christus Health , a large Catholic nonprofit based in Texas, has now established six hospitals in northern Mexico.
